Week 3 summary - An era a day

An 'era a day' was haaaard to do this week. It was the makeup, the hair styling (where I could) and the general researching required to be able to put the looks together from what I have in my cupboard.

Week 3 Day 7: Sunday - An era a day: 90s

Rock on! I'm in the 90s and I'm kickin around in jeans and a tee. OMG these are bad photos today! Anyway... The tee is an old Rolling Stones cover cotton printed tee. I bought this at Stock Jeans in Canberra.

Here's a closeup of the tee. Beastie Boys (one of my fave bands) on the cover and they're named artists of the year for 1999. I just scraped into the decade.

The jeans are another pair of True Religion jeans. They're black stone wash boot-leg jeans. Great to wear.

The pocket detail in these jeans is great. I'm wearing my Witchery laser-cut silver leather flats. I love these shoes. I wear them heaps.

This week signals the end of an era a day. I'll have to check the votes for next week to see what you voted for as your fave outfit for week 2 and what I have to wear next week.

Week 3 Day 6: Saturday - An era a day: 50s

Cruisin with the top down was great on this lovely sunny day. Wearing a striped wool top from Myer, Alex McQueen scarf from Net-a-Porter and Jimmy Choo sunnies.  

 I'm wearing with black capri pants from Sussan and Bally leather shoes. Pity I didn't have any white bobby-socks!

I had a big sleep in after Friday night poker at my mate's house. Just lazed in bed for most of the day.

Wearing this 50s gear was pretty comfy. I'm glad I don't own a big puffy skirt, or I probably would have been getting around in that today.

Week 3 Day 5: Friday - An era a day: 70s

Peace, man. It's the 70s and I've just finished workin for the man for the day. Now I'm having a cool time with my mates.

I'm wearing a Cotton On burnt organge singlet top, an ecru long-sleeve cotton tie-neck top from Sussan and a vintage vest.

I'm wearing Acne jeans. They're fab jeans. High-waisted and flared, they're very 70s

 My shoes are from Colorado. I don't have any platform wedges, but they're at least wedges.

I've got this awesome leather belt I picked up from an op shop. I've had this belt for years and it looks great with baggy tops and to tie in a dress.

I love the buckle detail on this vintage leather belt.

Jewellery is generally ecclectic today. Apart from the Necklace, I'm wearing earings I got from Just Jeans, wooden beads worn as a bracelet, with another wood bangle on one hand.

On the other hand I have this adorable ring shaped like a bird on a perch (purchased from Diva) and a gorgeous Murano glass bead bracelet with charms my cousing from Italy gifted.

On the trampoline! Thanks to my brother for taking the pics tonight. He does a good job!

Week 3 Day 4: Thursday - An era a day: 60s

Here I am in the swingin' 60s!

I've got a wool long-sleeved navy shift dress from Cue. I bought this a couple of years ago and it's a favourite. It was cool today, so the long sleeves were a good move.

I'm wearing with a silk scarf from Colorado. I heard they've recently gone into receivership, so a few hundred stores in their stable will close down in Australia (including Diana Ferrari and Mathers).


I only wear the individual lashes as the strip lashes are horrid to wear.

Part of the 60s look is about the eye makeup, including the false eyelashes. The other part of the 60s is all about the mini and the boots. These tan leather boots (with bright purple lining!) are from Diana Ferrari. I seldom find a pair that fit so snugly on my chicken-legs.

I'm holding a Stella McCartney for Target clutch from last year's collection. 

I love the button detailing on the sleeves and back on this dress.

Heading to work this morning, I donned my Jimmy Choo sunglasses. I picked these up from (very!) high-end department store, Henri Bendel, in New York. Apparently in the late 60s, Henri Bendel was the epicenter of modish New York

The other big hit of the 60s, of course, was go-go dancing! Woohoo.

Week 3 Day 3: Wednesday - An era a day: 30s

I did some research for the 1930s. It's not authentic (the shoes need to be cuban heels and chunkier, and the skirt needs to be longer), but I think I capture the feel OK, given what I have in my wardrobe.

I have a Zac Posen for Target bright red silk pussy-cat bow blouse. The detailing at the front of the shirt is remarkable. It's a truly beautiful shirt.

I am wearing it with a grey wool pleated skirt. Another op-shop find.

 Applying some perfume using an old fashioned atomiser.

Accessories are a patent leather skinny belt from Sportsgirl and Bally flat leather shoes. Bally make spectacular leather products.

I'm wearing the vintage stockings I wore on Monday. I am glad to not have to wear these again. They're fun, but they are short, unlike the stockings you get these days, and the nylon does not have the same comfortable stretch as they do with today's modern materials.

The hat is a grey felt cloche I have had for a long time. I am carrying an Oroton o-style handbag. The hat and hair are what really make this outfit 30s.

Week 3 Day 2: Tuesday- An era a day: 80s

Back in the 80s! It's all about the shoulder pads and pointy shoes.

I'm even sitting on an 80s cane rocking chair. It rocks!

I'm wearing a teal sheer silk chiffon blouse from Sportsgirl. This thing has some crazy shoulder pads. It's teamed with a high-waisted wool skirt by Matthew Eager I found at an op-shop years ago.

It's hard to do 'big hair' when it's quite short, so I've slicked the sides back. Big clip-on enamel and gold earrings I borrowed from my mum.

Hard to see, but I've got the 80s bright makeup on. Green eyeshadow, fuscia lips and quite a pronounced pink blush.

The belt is from Stella McCartney's collection for Target from 2010. It works as 80s belts were very wide.

Fishnet stockings are worn with these very pointy leather shoes I bought in Florence.

Now, while I'm not entering the following outfit into the challenge, and I'm not going to comment on the clothes (unless someone asks), I thought I'd show a more way-out 80s outfit I wore to a fancy dress party a few months back.

80s also signalled the era of 'fluro'. Just thought I'd include a couple of pics for fun.

Week 3 Day 1: Monday - An era a day: 40s

Thanks to Wonky (Susan) for suggesting this week's theme. It's going to be a challenging, but fun week. Today I'm back in the 1940s.

A busy day. First I had a cup of tea. I'm wearing a beige twinset I picked up from a boutique in Paris with a vintage Sportscraft wool skirt I picked up from an op shop many years ago.

Applied a little makeup. On my head I'm wearing a scarf I bought from a little shop in Venice.

It came from the Canberra Antiques Centre

Red nails and lips set off the pretty pearl necklace. I know they're old fashioned, but I do love pearls. I'm also wearing a brooch I borrowed from my mum.

Getting dressed I slipped on a pair of vintage seamed stockings.

I picked these up from ebay. They're true vintage. Cuban heel and all.

Time to do a little flower arranging. I guess that's what keeps gals in the 1940s busy.

These shoes are hot! They're another pair of Mogil heels, blue suede with tan kid-leather trim and laces. I got them from a boutique in Brisbane's Southbank.

After all that hard work, it's time for a wee drink. Hehe. Actually, I did work today. I also had to pop into Uni to drop an assignment off. Yup, I did get a couple of funny looks.
